"Assisted Living" follows perpetually down on his luck Dustin, who gets kicked out of his place by his girlfriend and has to live with his sister while he attempts to get back on his feet, meandering through society one awkward situation after another.

As time goes on Dustin: befriends a homeless man Bob, buys a guinea pig "Swayze," decides with his friend Darius to get his comedy career off the ground and most importantly tries to find love (and sex), where ever he can get it.

SEASON 6 of "Assisted Living" finds Dustin performing stand-up again and being "discovered" by a shady talent agent who casts him in a feature film. SEASON 3 of "Assisted Living" finally sees Dustin get a place of his own, with the help of a stack of cash left to him by his late best friend. His professional life also takes a turn when he gets the dream job as a stand-up for a burlesque show. SEASON 2 of "Assisted Living" picks up with Dustin gradually dating again. With Bob's help he comes out of his shell, meeting several women including a virgin in her thirties, Claire; a cute Indian doctor, Mahiki; and a stranger who may or may not like anal sex. Darius has to get a job at a hot dog stand to support himself where Dustin goes almost daily for free food. Dustin aspires to get back into his stand up but his stage fright and low self esteem continues to be an obstacle.
